Dexter Oregon

  • Recap from the race

Those Guys Racing had a great time this past weekend at the CDBA boat race in Dexter, Oregon. Our test and tune Friday went well. Made four passes, the best pass hit 9.00, leaving a good feeling heading in to qualifying on Saturday. The Chief put a good tune up in the Trophy Wife and we went out and ran a 9.01 pass. We had the #1 spot after the 1st session. The Trophy Wife’s 2nd qualifying pass ran a 9.02. As the boat was going in the water, the weather made a drastic change. Crew Chief Gary Breistig knew that we didn’t have enough in it for a .00. We were bumped out of the #1 spot. Hats off to Jeff Vale and Joe LaKamp. Both boats ran 9.00 passes with Jeff Vale taking the poll, that put us in the # 3 spot.

Sunday. Race Day. First up, Super Eliminator. We made our way through the round, but had some engine trouble during the run. Once we got the boat back to the pits, we were rushed back to the in-ramp for our 1st round of Top Eliminator. Knowing the Trophy Wife was down 2 cylinders, we just wanted to break the beam and get the points.

I want to say thank you to the other teams that came over to help us out. Thank you to Chris Starkweather and the B1 Racing team along with White Flag Racing for the help. We went out first round of Top Eliminator with a broken valve spring. Also, thank you to the other teams that offer us parts, Stan Tweedy, Gary and Brandon Davis as well as Josh Patridge.

Those Guys Racing would like the congratulate the winners for the weekend. Brandon Davis for taking Quick Eliminator, Mike Lewis for Pro Eliminator, Bob Prigmore for Top Eliminator, Josh Patridge for Super Eliminator and Merle Colvin for Modified Eliminator. Also, Bob Fry, a big thank you for the trailer tire. Without you, Those Guys Racing would have been stuck on the side of the road when we lost the second trailer tire. Last but not least, Those Guys Racing would like to thank the CDBA for putting on a great event. The best part of the trip was Saturday night at the Calcutta. Those Guys Racing put up one of our team hats to raise money for the Racers Emergency Support Program. Doug Young took home the hat with his pledge of $200.00 dollars. Thank you to Doug for helping us raise money towards a good cause. Thanks to all of my family and crew for their support. TGR will be back in full force.

We arrived at the track around 11:30, unloaded the TW, enjoyed some White Flag Racing hospitality and cooked up a mean batch of Antone’s sausage.

  • Four new trailer tires

Thanks to the boys at Industrial Tire Service for their fast professional help. 4 tires on a fully loaded trailer, swapped our spare out and we are back on the road. It was a smoking deal too! Hope to see you guys at the race.

3:45am. Had to make an unexpected stop in Redding for some NASCAR pit practice. Nothing out of the norm for us guys. We are hauling some weight man. New tire is on and we are back on the road. Slow it down chief. Checking Eugene for tires…

Filled up on diesel and chased it down with some double doubles. It’s half past midnight and we are going to keep rolling like ninja drag racing assassins. Moving quietly and steadily approaching our target. Next stop Shasta.

We hit the road around 4:30 this afternoon from TGR headquarters. The speedway travel center of Mojave offers the finest amenities in town for a race team on the go. They even left pump 3 open for us. After a quick visit with Bob Fry, High Noon and his team we are back on the road for another 14 hours of towing the Trophy Wife.
